That didn't deter over 100,000 people from marching in Bilbo (Bilbao) yesterday in support of bringing Basque prisoners back to this area (most are imprisoned hundreds of kilometers away, near Paris or Madrid). This photo is from the newspaper Gara.

The Moldman Cometh
This is about the size of it. Every time you turn around there's mold somewhere it shouldn't be (that would be outside the blue cheese).

I ran into this video that was filmed in a Madrid unemployment office recently. Usually flash mobs are a little too twee for me, but this was just...nice. Anyone who has spent any time in Spanish government offices can tell you that the DMV and TSA checkpoints look like bumpin' nightclubs full of your best friends by comparison. Some Spanish offices around here require that you pass an armed guard and a metal detector before you get to the waiting room (to their credit, the employees are unfailingly courteous), which I assume is not the case down in Madrid, or otherwise they couldn't have smuggled in their violins or bassoons. A much-needed bit of cheer, in any case.

Etxean
Lots of non-adventure adventures of late.
The white streaks are egrets. They hang out in flocks around cattle. Sometimes the cattle get angry and drive them off. But they come back. The egrets, that is. |
Lambs! Lambs! Lambs! |
This chap was placed at the top of a fort in support of an Euskara-speaking group. People leave notes inside the lantern. |
There is a pair of wild parrots on one of my regular walking routes. |
When it's not pouring, it's really quite something. |
